Kids and teenagers love clothes that display their name as it adds identity to the street culture that surrounds it. Names synonymous with street wear include Quiksilver, Element and DC. quiksilver
If you are looking for skate clothing then Quiksilver should be your first stop. They are a top selling brand in skate clothes and have been for around 20 years. Their clothes are very stylish while still maintaining that street appearance. They base their designs around graffiti art with airbrushed cartoon style motifs.
The shoes are another area where skate clothing has found its own niche. Skateboarding is a skill that requires a lot of balance and because of this the shoes have to be of a certain type. Flat bottomed shoes are what skateboarders look for and especially in trainer form. The flat bottoms mean they can get extra purchase on the board that give extra balance. In addition soft materials are also need to give them better manoeuvrability which is why trainers are preferred to shoes. The softer plastic soles also grip the board much better than shoes do.
The favourite brands of skater shoes are Vans and DC. These are brand names that have embedded themselves in skater culture by specifically designing trainers for the skateboarder.
Heelys
There is a new craze however sweeping the skater clothing markets which are called Heelys. These have only reached the UK market in the last couple of years but have been a roaring success. They are like roller-skates for everyday use and work in a very unique way. They constitute a single wheel embedded into the heel of a show or trainer. Children can then use this wheel to glide around merely by shifting their weight. The advantage of these types of shoes is that by leaning forward on the front of their feet kids can use these as normal trainers negating the affects of the wheel. Demand has been huge for these shoes which until year ago could only by imported from America. Now these Heelys have hit UK shores and are set to spark a revolution in skater culture.
Skateboarding
The skate culture would not have even existed if it wasn't for the skateboard. Skateboards are still popular even though they have been with us for a number of decades now. Like skate clothing they have their brand giants such as Element Quicksilver and RC Sports which produce some of the most stylish products in skateboard design.
